Walking – FREE guided walks starting between 09:30 and 11:30, depending on distance.
These are open to all abilities and ages. Register at Oriel Davies 15 minutes before the start of your chosen walk. Children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult. For details on the walks in the programme see our web site: newtown.org.uk/the-walks/newtown-outdoor-festival-walks

Challenge Walk

FREE Strenuous walk – 14.5 miles Newtown to Kerry Ridgeway walk – A beautiful and varied walk, it reaches a height of 501 m on the Ridgeway and the whole walk has 699 m accumulation height gain – two valleys between the town and the ridgeway. The bulk of the walk is done on reaching the ridgeway at 8.5 miles with only one climb on the way back. Fantastic views of Newtown, then Kerry and Kerry Vale and fabulous views on a good day of Snowdonia from the ridgeway, where we will have lunch. Depending on the weather it can be quite exposed on the ridgeway. We should get back around 16:30. Outdoor clothing is required and full waterproofs, your own packed lunch, snacks and drinks. Pre-booking will be necessary. Details later.

Draw to Explore - Creative Art Walk
Time: 11:30 to 13:30

FREE Draw to Explore – Organized by Oriel Davies. Book in advance
Open to all ages and abilities on level ground. Children under 16 to be accompanied by a parent/carer. Meet at the gallery for a fun guided art walk with a professional artist.
Art materials will be provided. Places limited so book your place now, details to follow.
Mountain bike coaching
Time: Four sessions between 9:00 and 16:00

Free Mountain bike coaching sponsored by Open Newtown
Mountain bike coaching sessions using the trails at Trehafren Hill. All their training is based around developing the rider’s confidence and skills. The sessions will start at the bottom of Trehafren Hill and make their way up to the trails. Bring your bike and helmet to the hill at least 15 minutes before your session. Beginner sessions are for those new to mountain biking and intermediate for those with some off road experience. Sessions will be limited to 6 per session. Booking details will be available later.
alpaca fun

Location: Town Park Green near Oriel Davies Gallery
Alpaca Meet & Greet – The alpacas are friendly and trained to be handled and will walk with you when haltered. They are shy but quite inquisitive especially around children. They love to watch people, maybe sniff you hand or head. Come and meet and greet them, maybe even feed them.. They’ll be pleased to do a selfie with you. There will also be a stall selling a small range of alpaca merchandise.
Fishing
Time: 11:00 & 14:00
Location: On lawn in front of Oriel Davies. Booking on the day at the Oriel Davies Gallery Hub.

FREE Fly casting lessons organised by River Severn Custodians
Each casting session will comprise approx. 20 mins demonstration and then an additional hour for people to have a go. Equipment will be provided for those interested to have a go and that children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.
Gardening
Time: 11:00 to 15:00

Gardening organised by Newtown Garden Club
The Club is a friendly group of garden lovers from Newtown and the surrounding area. They aim to help people enjoy gardening at every level from window box to large gardens. Visit their stall to find out about their programme of talks and garden visits. Buy plants locally grown by members.
